LMS 1-on-1: Products, Courses, Modules, & Lessons

Purpose:

To provide a structured process for saving, organizing, and managing video and course content in a client’s Learning Management System (LMS).


Step 1: Accessing the LMS

  1. Log In: Use the credentials provided by the client to access their account.
  2. Locate LMS: Navigate to the LMS, usually listed in the left-hand menu. If renamed, verify its location with the client.

Step 2: Understanding the LMS Structure

  1. Key Sections:

    • Products: Bundles or individual offerings within the LMS.
    • Courses: Learning modules tied to the products.
    • Settings: Customization options for courses and products.
  2. Product and Course Relationship:

    • Products can include multiple courses.
    • Courses can be attached to multiple products.
    • Ensure clarity on whether the task involves creating a new product, course, or both.

Step 3: Creating a Product or Course

  1. Adding a Product:

    • Navigate to the “Products” section.
    • Select “Add Product” and define it as a standalone course or a bundle.
    • Add course details, including title, description, and tags.
    • Upload a thumbnail or relevant image.
  2. Adding a Course:

    • Navigate to the “Courses” section.
    • Create a course from scratch or attach it to an existing product.
    • Provide course details such as:
      • Course name
      • Modules and lessons
      • Attachments (e.g., videos)

Step 4: Customizing Course Appearance

  1. Adjust Styling:

    • Update the course's branding to align with the client’s preferences.
    • Modify sidebar colors, text colors, and hover effects.
    • Preview changes to ensure consistency and readability.
  2. Edit Course Details:

    • Update the course description, summary, and photo.
    • Add or modify tags for better organization.

Step 5: Adding Course Materials

  1. Add Lessons and Modules:

    • Define modules and break them into lessons.
    • For each lesson, upload or attach materials like documents, videos, or automation workflows.
  2. Add Videos:

    • Option 1: Duplicate an existing lesson for faster setup.
      • Copy and paste the provided title and details.
      • Edit the embedded HTML code with the video URL.
    • Option 2: Create a new lesson.
      • Click the “+” button to add a new row or block.
      • Select “Video” and embed the URL.
      • Allow full-screen viewing for better accessibility.
  3. Verify Video Embedding:

    • Preview the course to ensure the video displays correctly.
    • Adjust the settings if the video doesn’t load properly.

Step 6: Publish and Review

  1. Preview the Course:

    • Ensure all elements, such as videos, descriptions, and styling, display as expected.
    • Verify the functionality of linear progression (if required) to enforce module completion before advancing.
  2. Publish:

    • Once reviewed, publish the updates to make them accessible to participants.

Step 7: Final Check and Client Notification

  1. Verify all tasks are complete and align with the client's expectations.
  2. Notify the client that their LMS content has been updated, providing a summary of changes made.

Additional Notes:

  • Always confirm with the client before making structural changes to their LMS.
  • Use branding guidelines provided by the client for a consistent appearance.
  • Test all features to ensure proper functionality before publishing.
